Ubuntu Live Conference: Taking it Further in 2008
Call for participation is now open
Sebastopol, CA, December 18, 2007--The second Ubuntu Live conference, co-presented by Canonical, Ltd and O'Reilly Media is slated to take place July 21-22, 2008 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon. This two day event will gather IT professionals, government leaders, business executives, and community leaders to share their Ubuntu based computing experiences and knowledge.
Ubuntu is a complete Debian-based Linux operating system, developed and supported by a large community committed to the principles and spirit of open source and free software. Ubuntu Live is the official, trusted event for the community, welcoming all the different segments within the ecosystem--experts, long-time users, established companies, and newcomers alike in a passionate, energizing environment.
Building on the success of the 2007 event, the 2008 event will feature longer sessions and a track devoted to technical enthusiasts and developers. The program committee is now accepting proposals to lead sessions, panel discussions, and demos at the 2008 edition of Ubuntu Live. Program chair Jane Silber said, "We're looking for ways users are taking Ubuntu further, really pushing the boundaries of what's possible with the open source environment. The committee is particularly interested in hearing from the following:"
-Gurus using Ubuntu in unexpected ways-Entrepreneurs launching businesses based on Ubuntu
-Educators or researchers helping their community thrive with Ubuntu
-Programmers, trainers, and system administrators with best practices to share
The conference, which will include keynotes, panel presentations, and general sessions, will be organized around the following tracks: Community, Education, Enterprise, Virtualization & Virtual appliances, Performance & Optimization, and Ubuntu in Action. Here are some areas the program committee is activity recruiting speakers for:
-Ubuntu in small and medium businesses-Deploying and managing large scale deployments
-Building appliances and products
-Performance optimization in Ubuntu
-Virtualization uses for server consolidation, maintenance simplification or security
-Adding Ubuntu as a supported platform
-Ubuntu in the NGO/non-profit sector
Attendees will have a chance to network, exchange information, and make connections at a variety of extra-curricular events at the conference. Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions, user driven, informal evening discussion groups, will take place each evening. There will also be a comprehensive Exhibit Hall featuring the leading companies offering Ubuntu related products. Last year's sponsors and exhibitors included: Dell, Intel, OpenMoko, Savoir-faire Linux, Sun Microsystems, and System76.
