InsideMobile is one of the first conferences to teach programmers the basics of developing on all major mobile platforms, including iPhone, Blackberry, Palm webOS, Windows Mobile, Symbian, and Android. Even better, although the Palm Pre webOS SDK has yet to be publicly released, InsideMobile has been granted special permission by Palm to host not one, but two, 4-hour training sessions.
Agile Commerce, developers of the Palm Pre application for FlightView, will present the first session. "We are glad to have the opportunity to kick off the first-ever public webOS training session. We are excited to share our expertise and to help build the webOS developer community," says managing partner Eric Marthinsen. They will cover the basics--navigating the SDK, creating a new application, adding functionality and style to the application, and debugging techniques.
Pivotal Labs, creators of four launch-day apps--AP Mobile, Mobile by CitySearch, LikeMe, and Tweed, the twitter application for the Pre--will lead the second session. "We've been fortunate to work with Palm webOS for many months now and have found it to be one of our favorite platforms, and not just in mobile. We will share our approaches and experience and hope it will help others continue the innovation webOS enables," says Christian Sepulveda, VP of Business Development. Their session will cover background processes, multiple card applications, databases, and notifications.
Other sessions include:
Beyond the Tile
Presenter: Phil Libin
Evernote has been in the news recently, covered by BusinessWeek and receiving shouts of praise on Twitter from Guy Kawasaki. Phil Libin, CEO of Evernote, will talk about how applications have turned mobile devices into invaluable tools for personal and professional productivity, as well as entertainment. With the Evernote product available across many platforms, Phil has a lot of insight into what it takes to be successful in mobile development.
PhoneGap Training with the Experts
Presenters: Rob Ellis & Brock Whitten
PhoneGap is an open source development tool based on JavaScript that lets developers build for the iPhone, Android, and Blackberry platforms at the same time. While many application developers feel the need to choose one platform, PhoneGap proves that you don't have to. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to target multiple platforms with one codebase.
iPhone Primer for Java Engineers
Presenter: Gus Holcomb
Targeted at Java engineers who are new to the iPhone platform, this session will cover Objective-C, the iPhone SDK, and the development environments at an accelerated pace, by comparing and contrasting attendee knowledge and experiences developing with Java.
Mobile Browsing Trends and Developments
Presenter: Raj Singh
HTML 5 and numerous standards groups like W3C, MWI, and OMTP BONDI are standardizing JavaScript for accessing native features of the phone, eliminating the huge cost and significant effort involved in porting. During this session, you will learn how you can now build rich web applications.
Maxing Out Mobile: Persistence and Virtual Economies
Presenter: Francisco Diaz-Mitoma
As mobile applications fill the marketplace, it is important for mobile developers to have differentiators. By combining game mechanics with social experiences, applications can reach and capture attention spans for longer periods of time. During the presentation, we will discuss the different ways to wrap meta-game features around mobile applications, and will focus on expected outcomes.
Introduction to Intelligere Flash Lite Server
Presenter: Giorgio Natilli
Intelligere Flash Lite Server (FLS) is a C++ open source component that gives developers the ability to interact with the API of a Symbian device from Flash Lite. With FLS, you can extend the capabilities of a Flash Lite application: making simple HTTP calls, sending commands, and getting back data in the SWF file. During this presentation, we'll look at the architecture of the server and examine practical samples.
